Director's Welcome

Hello and welcome to Monash University and to off-campus learning, or distance education as it is also known.  In addition to giving you access to a fully accredited university course of study,
off-campus learning gives you options.  You can achieve your tertiary learning goals by organising study around your existing work, social and family commitments flexibly.

There are both benefits and challenges in undertaking your tertiary education with Monash with this flexible option.  There are, however, lessons to be learned from those who achieve success.  Successful off-campus learners tend to be:

  • Capable of managing competing demands of university, work, family, and so on.  They make good use of those strategies and approaches they have learned through a busy life.

  • Flexible, adaptable, persevering and good at time management.  They have moved further into their course of study, learning the ropes, controlling the timing of their study and organising it around their life commitments, and learning new approaches.  They have learned to pace themselves.

  • People who know what they want.  They have a focus - whether further qualifications, high grades, developing further knowledge and experience - which motivates them to achieve their study goals.

  • Older adult learners who, wanting to return to study or to gain qualifications, have experience that can be used to good effect in managing study and learning.

  • Used to working by themselves - or have developed a great network of friends, work colleagues, family and fellow students with whom they can discuss research and projects.  They can also seek guidance from their network of family and friends as they achieve their tertiary learning goals.

We recognise that you want to succeed and that your time is a very precious commodity and so through Off-Campus Connection, the website for Monash off-campus students, you'll be able to find out what you need with a minimum of fuss.

We are always looking to improve and update our website, and so welcome your comments and feedback. Send them along to us at the Off-Campus Learning Centre.

I wish you all the very best in your studies at Monash.
